Institutional Critique: Closure of Inna Contemporary Art Space
Alternative art spaces have continually wavered in the grey area between institutions and individuals: while often started by individuals, their institutional character must be understood in terms of self-organisation. LEAP contemplates the recent closure of Inna Contemporary Art Space in Hang Zhou.

Through his work Tao Zhou has always explored his own identity and his surroundings, touching on a range of subjects that interest him. In his new solo show “Green Sun” at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Zhou Tao compares the making of this project to “flying close to the ground”—a feeling of skin barely touching the earth’s surface, a renewed connection between the flesh and its excavation.

To commemorate its 10th anniversary, Parasol unit, in collaboration with the Sotheby’s and online auction house Paddle8 hosts an auction exhibition, entitled Towards Tomorrow.
All proceeds raised from the event will go towards Parasol unit’s exhibition and educational events programme. Lots include works by artists such as Adel Abdessemed, Cecilia Edefalk, Fiona Banner, Michaël Borremans, Antony Gormley, Mona Hatoum, Isaac Julien, Idris Kahn, YZ Kami, Robert Mangold, Chris Ofili, Yinka Shonibare, MBE and Luc Tuymans, among many artists who have all generously donated a work of art to be sold at the auction.
Doha’s Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) is set to open Building Our Collection exhibition on 17 September.
Athr Gallery, Pi Artworks and Galleri Zilbermann collaborate to present Disquiet, a group exhibition featuring works by Volkan Aslan, Ayman Yossri Daydban, Ipek Duben, Asli Torcu, Sami Al-Turki, Mehmet Ali Uysal, Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige.
Contemporary Art Platform, Kuwait presents Layers by Palestinian artist Steve Sabella featuring works such as Independence (2013), 38 Days Of Re-collection (2014), Metamorphosis (2012) and Exit (2006).
Qatari-American artist Sophia Al-Maria presents her solo show at Cornerhouse in Manchester. This exhibition, which is curated by Omar Kholeif, presents a newly commissioned body of work for Al-Maria’s first major exhibition entitled, Virgin With A Memory.
